Over the weekend I saw a sign that said Antique Ga

Over the weekend I saw a sign that said Antique Garage sale around back, so I pulled over and checked it out. It was a very large old house and when I went around back I was greeted by two friendly people on the back porch who said, please take a look around. After I asked a few questions about things, they broke out a photo album and showed me the transformation of their 1885 Carriage House. They said all of these things were inside of it before they started the reconstruction. It was a large undertaking which included jacking up the building and pouring a new cement floor and foundation. As I was looking around I noticed what looked like a set of red and white license plates. When I picked them up I immediately noticed they were porcelain, but I had no idea what they were. I purchased them and when I got home I immediately started to do some research. They are antique New York porcelain licenses plates. This style of plate was only made during 1912 by Lalance and Grosjean Manufacturing Company (L&G Mfg Co.). The numbers on these plates (over 70,000) were relegated to Newburgh, Poughkeepsie, Plattsburg, Albany, Utica, Watertown, and Binghamton. While one of them is in rough shape, I am stunned that I was able to find a matched pair as these are rare plates. Found this at an estate sale. It was in the garage leaning up against the wall. When I saw it, I was taken back by how much different this sled is than the usual ones I buy. This is a Strand Ski Sled which has some very interesting details. The house I found this at wasn't terribly old, but it had some great vintage items and this was one of them. It's perfect timing as the temperature here in upstate New York is dropping every day and winter will be here before you know it. #cavepicker #pickerstories #strandskisled #vintage #vintagetoys

It took 13 garage sales to find this load of man cave goodies. My son and I were in and out of the car many times and didn't find a whole lot of items, but were able to track down things that I think are high on the cool scale including a fun 1970's Tudor Games bowling set along with some wooden cigar boxes, and wall hangers. The coolest is a 4 foot #SailorJerry surfboard. It has a great #tattoo image. There are a couple items that were cut off in the picture including the four foot surfboard. Scored this amazing #antique embossed weights and

Scored this amazing #antique embossed weights and measures #ellisco 10 gallon gas can. The worn green paint makes this can amazing. This has a tag on the outside saying Geo. D Ellis & Sons Inc. Super Service Can. Cans like this were used for gas pump calibration and you can see in the photo the tag on the inside of the can that shows the point where it’s exactly 10 gallons. The lid turns to lock it in place. I found this at an estate sale and am so happy I did. Took some back and forth negotiation but we finally landed on a price that we were both satisfied with. I found this vintage beer keg at a local flea mark

I found this vintage beer keg at a local flea market. It's a #JacobRuppert Brewery Keg which was tucked away under a table where the owner said it has been for over a year without any takers. As soon as I saw it, I knew I had to buy it as it's such a great #mancave item. The #JacobRuppertBrewery was started by Jacob Ruppert in the late 1800's and ran in #NewYorkCity until it closed in 1965. Jacob Ruppert was the owner of the New York Highlanders and later changed the name to the #NewYorkYankees. He was responsible for bringing Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, and Babe Ruth to the team. I was out at the flea market recently and purchased some vintage hand saws. They were in great shape so I made the #fleamarketfranchisee an offer for all 10 which he accepted. I have been learning to hand letter and paint so I started this on Sunday and just finished today. Hand painted saw that says 5 cent tattoo removal. Found these Vietnam War era military goggles and t

Found these Vietnam War era military goggles and this 40mm #trenchart ashtray in two separate places. The ashtray is marked with a naval anchor on the bottom and is very heavy. Someone did a great job making this from a 40mm artillery shell. Picked it from a woman who said her husband had it for many years. The goggles were from a local picker and I bought them because they have the box, paperwork, and the extra tinted lens. Two cool pieces of #militaria. #pickerstories #pickernation

Won this at a live Facebook auction a couple weeks ago. They were running a special in that whoever won the auction could get $5 off if the auctioneer’s mother was able to get a ringer on a ring toss game. Picked up this great vintage neon yesterday. I was at a garage sale and noticed this beauty angling on the back wall. It wasn’t part of the sale originally but a couple inquiries and an offer got it done. **sold** #millerlite #pickernation #mancave #pickerstories

I was able to pick some great vintage bottle opene

I was able to pick some great vintage bottle openers over the past week. They are all different and really interesting. I purchased some at a flea market and a few at garage sales. The #CocaCola and Open Bottle Here opener were purchased from a guy at a flea market who was excited I was interested as everyone else that day just walked past. I thought they were great and we were able to strike a deal. The #schaefer beer bottle opener came from an old grocery store that was owned by two sisters who lived in the house attached to the back of the store their whole lives. They never got married, and took over the store after their mother and father passed away. They were fantastic ladies and had a bunch of these bottle openers. When my son and I arrived at a sale early Thursday

When my son and I arrived at a sale early Thursday morning we were surprised to see all the great things they had to offer. The gentleman running the sale was a Korean War Veteran who had amassed quite the collection of fun items. One of the things in particular that caught my eye were these great cigarette lighters. He had a bunch of them all in this nice display case. I couldn't help myself and had to buy them all. I think the cannon and golf club are a lot of fun, and the blue stamps lighters are very interesting, but I think the really special item is the electric cigar lighter which I think is from the 20's or 30's. My son and I had some great conversations with the guy running the sale who also liked to joke around. I am selling this group as I think they need to be added to someone's collection. #pickernation #pickerstories

Converted this #antique washstand to a #MANCAVE #bar. Lots of fun to have with this piece. It has a bottle opener, wine rack, ice bucket, and plenty of room for other booze. I added the glass pull knobs to give it a little pizazz. Found this on the side of the road in rough shape. Instead of a trip to the dump it can be used as a fun center. #pickernation #pickerstories

Was out picking and pulled up to a garage sale and found 3 of these neat old #icecreamparlor chairs. I really like the back and how they are springy. I immediately tried to buy them and the owner said they think they had one more but if was at their other house. I paid for the three and said I would come back and get the fourth. When I went back a week later they had found it. I’m so glad to have an entire set. #pickernation #pickerstories

I sold a few of these engine pistons this weekend at the flea market. I think they are just great interesting automotive excitement. I sold some to a 12 year old and his parents who were telling me that he is so into cars that he belongs to a club that is in the process of restoring a 1932 Chevy Model A. What a cool club and great education. Someone else approached me and said he’s seen where they play a game with these pistons by putting a tire at one end and a tire at the other and you play like horseshoes/lawn jarts by throwing them from one end to the other to score points. I had never heard of that before. What would you make with these? I have some left and need ideas. #mancavesunday #pickerstories #pickernation

Yesterday I was out for a drive and came around this very sharp bend to find a driveway full of goodies. I pulled over on the shoulder and put my 4 way flashers on. As I walked over I could see there was a lot of great old junk. Lot's of intersting stuff such as a loose hay grapple. It was fairly rusty but who doesn't need one of those for the wall? I walked a few more steps and found these two great #kerosenecans. They stood out to me as I just think they are super. One can was recently painted to say The Great Sacandaga Est. 1930 which is a lake up near me that was formed in 1930 as a reservior. These are some great cans and a lot of fun. I was able to get them for a good price as well which always makes me happy.

Stumbled upon this great vintage Pabst Blue Ribbon neon sign. When I say stumbled I mean I picked this from someone looking to down size their collection of #mancave items. When they reached out to me to see if I'd be interested in buying any of their collection I jumped at the chance. When I arrived, he had a pile of great items and this was just one of the ones that really caught my eye. I think my eyes bugged out once he plugged it in. After some negotiation we came to an agreement that made us both happy. The older neon's are so heavy and this one didn't disappoint. I thought this would make a perfect post for #mancavesunday. #pickernation

Early last Saturday morning I drove by a house that had a lot of stuff out in their driveway. There was #oldtools, #milkcans, boats, lawn equipment and more. I was driving a little too fast to stop on my first pass and wasn't able to spot any signs saying there was a sale, but decided it would be a good idea to swing back around for another look and I'm glad I did. When I got out of my car I was met by a man saying I'm glad you came back around, I'm trying to get rid of some stuff. I browsed for a little while and then I noticed this great #rivetgun under a table of awesome junk. It's amazing that it has the original box, rivets, and #brassgauge. Last Saturday I bought a bin of old tools for a great price. I wasn't sure what was in the bin as I didn't really get a chance to look through it before purchasing, so it was like a great at home treasure hunt when I dug through it later. In the bin I found two older #handsaws that were in rough shape. I thought it would be neat to paint them up for wall hangers in someone's mancave. I hand drew the both the #AmericanFlag and #Mancave lettering and then painted them. I'm still working on my painting skills but it's coming along. I was lucky to purchase these milk cans from a ret

I was lucky to purchase these milk cans from a retired garbage collector who saved them from the landfill years ago. They were out behind his shed and starting to get rusty. I was able to remove the rust and old paint using an angle grinder equipped with a stripping wheel. Once I stripped them all down I gave them a couple coats of paint and then applied some great decals. I have a few different ones including a #dairy farmhouse type, a #homesweethome, a gold eagle, and a couple welcome ones. The eagle is actually a vintage decal that I tracked down.
